The trainer on this first aid at work course was friendly, approachable and very well versed in her subject. She took questions and interacted with the class with ease and made the practical aspects fun while getting the information over to the class in a thoughtful and caring way. I have no hesitation in recommending this course.

I have organised for 4 staff to go through the 1 day emergency FAW course and 4 staff to go through 3 day FAW course. STG have been very helpful with the organisation, very competitively priced, and feedback from all participants was that the representative delivering the training was excellent. This is the 4th or 5th time certain staff members have went through the FAW course - but to a person they have each mentioned that the quality of training delivered was their most educational and enjoyable in their careers.T he only adverse comment was the location of the training centre. So thank-you.

Just completed a First Aid Course with the company and would like to thank Allan King for sharing his extensive knowledge and experience on First Aid and its application in real life. Allan was very knowledgeable and obviously experienced in his subject and delivered the subject matter in an easy to understand way. The practical part of the course was excellent and reinforced what we had learned. Facilities in the training venue which was easy to get to in central Paisley were good with tea and coffee provided throughout.

Introduction to Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW)

The Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW) course is a one-day training programme designed to equip participants with essential skills to manage emergency situations in the workplace.

Whether you work in an office, retail environment, or a low-risk setting such as a yoga studio, this course ensures you are prepared to handle medical emergencies effectively.

The training complies with UK Health and Safety regulations and provides participants with the confidence and knowledge to save lives while meeting legal requirements for workplace safety.

A nationally recognised EFAW Certificate is awarded upon successful completion, valid for three years.

The course is ideal for employers, employees, and self-employed individuals who need to appoint a qualified first aider or enhance their understanding of basic first aid techniques.

Why Emergency First Aid Training is Essential

Emergencies can occur unexpectedly, and having trained individuals capable of responding promptly can make a critical difference. Key reasons to complete an Emergency First Aid at Work course include:

  • Compliance with Legal Requirements: UK workplaces are required by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) to conduct risk assessments and ensure adequate first aid provisions. Completing an EFAW course satisfies these obligations.
  • Confidence in Emergency Situations: Training equips participants to handle a wide range of emergencies, including managing unconscious casualties, performing Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), and using an Automated External Defibrillator (AED).
  • Safety in Low-Risk Environments: This course is particularly suited for low-risk workplaces, such as offices and shops, where the likelihood of complex injuries is minimal.
  • Enhanced Workplace Safety: Trained emergency first aiders contribute to a safer working environment by responding quickly and appropriately to incidents

Course Overview

The Emergency First Aid at Work course is structured to provide a comprehensive understanding of workplace first aid. Key aspects include:

  • Roles and Responsibilities of an Emergency First Aider: Understanding the duties of a first aider, including legal requirements and maintaining a first aid kit.
  • Risk Assessment: Identifying potential hazards in the workplace and assessing the level of risk to ensure proper first aid arrangements.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS): Performing CPR and managing unresponsive casualties effectively.
  • Use of Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs): Hands-on training in using an AED during cardiac arrest emergencies.
  • Managing Minor Injuries: Treating cuts, bruises, burns, and other non-critical injuries commonly encountered in the workplace.
  • Emergency Situations: Handling severe incidents such as choking, shock, and major bleeding.
  • Recovery Position: Safely positioning an unconscious casualty to maintain an open airway and prevent complications.
  • Communication with Emergency Services: Ensuring effective coordination with professionals to provide appropriate care.

The course incorporates theoretical knowledge and practical skills, ensuring participants are well-prepared to respond confidently in real-life scenarios.
