Paediatric First Aid Course (12-Hour)

Course Overview

The course ensures compliance with OFSTED and the Care and Social Services Inspectorate Wales (CSSIW) and is suitable for Early Years Educators preparing for End Point Assessment (EPA).

Modules Breakdown

The Level 3 Paediatric First Aid Course covers comprehensive skills and knowledge needed to handle emergencies involving infants and children. Topics include:

• CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) for infants and children
• Use of AED (Automated External Defibrillator) for infants and children
• Choking and airway obstruction management
• Bleeding control and shock management
• Treatment of burns, including electrical and chemical burns
• Recognition and management of head injuries and concussion
• Spinal injury management
• Treatment of fractures and broken bones
• Managing bites, stings, poisoning, and overdose
• Recognising and managing anaphylaxis and allergic reactions
• Asthma and respiratory emergencies
• Managing diabetes emergencies
• Seizures and febrile convulsions
• Meningitis and serious infections
• Croup and pneumonia management
• Dehydration and gastroenteritis

The course also covers advanced first aid protocols, the use of specialist equipment, and effective communication with emergency services.

Exams and Assessment

Learners will be assessed continuously by the trainer throughout the course, culminating in:

• 2 multiple-choice theory assessments
• 7 practical demonstrations

Successful candidates will be awarded a Level 3 Certificate from Qualsafe Awards.

Entry Requirements

Participants must be 16 years of age or older to enrol in this course.

Course Overview

The 12-Hour Paediatric First Aid course includes 6 hours of practical training and 6 hours of interactive eLearning. The online learning module is accessible via any device, and learners can revisit the materials as often as needed. The hands-on classroom training session, delivered by an experienced trainer, focuses on equipping learners with the skills and confidence to handle paediatric emergencies.

EYFS 2021 Update – This blended course is fully aligned with the new EYFS framework, effective from September 2021, ensuring it meets all Department for Education guidelines.

This blended programme includes all elements of the Emergency Paediatric First Aid course, with additional content to qualify for Full Paediatric First Aid certification.
