Emergency First Aid at Work + Paediatric Element

Course Overview

Upon successfully completing this course, candidates will be qualified to act as a first aider in the workplace.

This Emergency First Aid at Work course is ideal for environments where a needs assessment has identified a low-risk workplace. It fully complies with the Health & Safety (First-Aid) Regulations 1981 (Appendix 6: Content of an Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW) Course).

In addition to the topics covered in a standard Emergency First Aid at Work course, this programme includes specific training relevant to school settings.

Course Contents / Learning Outcomes:

In line with Appendix 6 of the Health & Safety (First-Aid) Regulations 1981, this course covers the following topics:

• The role of a first aider
• The importance of preventing cross-infection
• The necessity of recording incidents and actions
• The use of available first aid equipment
• Assessing situations and responding safely in an emergency
• Administering Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
• Safe use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED)
• Administering first aid to a casualty who is:
  • Unconscious (including seizures)
  • Choking
  • Wounded or bleeding
  • Suffering from shock
• Providing appropriate first aid for minor injuries (small cuts, grazes, bruises, minor burns, scalds, and small splinters)

Additional Subjects:

• Administering CPR to a child
• Recognising and managing asthma
• Recognising and managing anaphylaxis
• Administering first aid to a child who is:
  • Unconscious (including seizures)
  • Choking.

Accreditation:

This course is accredited by the First Aid Industry Body (FAIB) and complies with the Health & Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981.
